How to use Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea Tree essential oil can be found as the main ingredient in many anti-fungal nail treatments. That’s because it works best and has the best rate of treatment. 

So it makes sense to just try the ‘all-natural’ product, on its own. Tea Tree oil is a wonderful all-natural essential oil. Steam distilled from the Australian Tea Tree leaves – also known as Ti Tree and Melaleuca Alternifolia. 

The oil is also useful for fighting bacteria, fungi, and viruses. It’s wonderful at combatting acne and dandruff and it’s a great addition to any first aid kit. 

Usage: Usually you would add 6 drops to the bath to fight fungal infections across the body. So a little bit goes a long way. 

You can add a few drops to a bowl of hot water for helping with infections and acne, etc. 

However, to fight a fungal nail infection, you will likely need to apply this neat to the nail, as fungal nail infections can be severe and long-lasting. 

The nail is a little more hard-wearing, but do wash this off, after about 5-10 minutes.

Application:  Apply 1 drop of oil from the bottle onto a cotton wool bud and then rub the bud onto the infected area, or drip the oil directly onto the affected area.

We’d advise against using your hands or cross-contamination from one nail to the other with the same cotton wool bud. Always use a fresh cotton wool bud.
Wash the oil off the nail after 10 minutes, if you repeat this process for about 4 weeks, daily, you should see improvements.
If you don’t or if you suffer a skin reaction to the oil, then wash it off and see your GP about your fungal infection.

Never use tea tree oil neat for anything else.

There is a leaflet contained that suggests other uses that would involve diluting the oil. Tea Tree is also antiseptic, antiviral, and antifungal. So is an oil with diverse uses to keep in your first aid box.

Of course, it won’t work for everyone so, if after applying as per instructions, you still have issues, it would be best to consult a medical professional.
