How to Use a Diffuser with Essential Oils

Whether you’re new to essential oils or have been using them for years, a diffuser is a great way to make the most out of them. By easily and safely dispersing the scent of the oil around your room, a diffuser allows you to experience all the benefits of aromatherapy. Scent can have a powerful influence on your mood. Just one whiff of lavender can transport you to a happy memory and make you calmer in seconds.

At Tender Essence, we know all about the positive effect that using scent in your life can have. You might be looking for a sense of calm after a busy day at work. Or some confidence before you get your day started. Essential oils can help you achieve that, and using a diffuser is the easiest way. They’re safe, low maintenance, and can be quickly set up. It’s easy to fit one around your day-to-day life.

How to use a diffuser with essential oils

Firstly, you should always check the manufacturer’s instructions that come with your diffuser. Each will be slightly different, and some types may not even be suitable for use with essential oils. You should always check beforehand. (All the diffusers on our website can be used with essential oils. View them here.)

In most cases, your diffuser will require you to fill a well with water and add in a few drops of your desired essential oil. You can even put a few oils in at once, to create your own personalised scent blends. Using electricty or heat, the diffuser then turns the water into steam, diffusing the essential oil around your room in an aromatherapy mist.

Some diffusers work a little differently, which is why it’s important to always refer to the instructions. We offer a fan diffuser, which uses a spinning fan to disperse the scent of your oils. To use this, you place drops of oil onto a pad (supplied with the diffuser), and simply place the pad inside above the fan.

Essential oil diffuser blends

There are infinite combinations of essential oils you can using in your diffuser. It’s so much fun experimenting and trying out new blends! You can always come up with your own, and enjoy getting creative. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

What if I don’t have a diffuser?

If you haven’t got a diffuser there are still plenty of ways you can enjoy the scent and aromatherapy benefits of essential oils. If you have an oil burner, it’s very easy to use and similar to a diffuser. Just add a little water and a few drops of essential oil to the well at the top, then place a tealight candle underneath. (Make sure you always add water. If you heat pure oil, it will spit.) Alternatively, essential oils evaporate naturally. Simply taking the lid off a bottle and leaving it on a high shelf (out of reach of pets and children) or dripping a few drops onto a tissue and placing it above a radiator is enough to fragrance a room.
