Learning how to create your own DIY face masks can really make you feel like you’ve unlocked the power of the universe. Or unlocked a really good skincare secret, at least! In fact, here at Tender Essence, we think that mastering the use of essential oils in your skincare regime is way more important than splashing out on expensive brands. To prove it, we’ve created these three super easy, but super effective, face mask recipes. There’s one for mature skin, one for spot prone skin and one all-rounder for every skin type.
So basically, we’ve got you, and your skin, covered.
Anti-ageing face mask
Frankincense oil is known to reduce the appearance of age spots as well as sunspots, making it perfect if you want to even out the tone of your skin and keep it looking fresh. When used regularly it can strengthen the skin, improving its elasticity and fighting the signs of ageing. Mix this with the deeply moisturising nature of aloe vera and you have the perfect face mask for mature skin.
Ingredients:
- 2 tsp of maple syrup
- 1 tsp of aloe vera gel
- 2 drops of frankincense oil
Mix all of the ingredients together and apply to the face and neck. Leave the mask for approximately 15 minutes before washing off with warm water.
Spot-busting face mask
If you’ve had a breakout, or have spot prone skin, you need tea tree oil in your life. Not only does its antibacterial nature stop spot-causing bacteria before it can develop, but it helps to calm and heal spots that already exist. We like to pair this miracle oil with oats. They naturally help the skin to retain its moisture, combatting the drying effect that Tea Tree can have. Its anti-inflammatory properties also make it perfect for reducing the redness and swelling associated with acne.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of plain porridge oats
- 1 cup of water or milk
- 3 drops of tea tree oil
Cook the porridge oats according to the instructions on the packet. Mix in the tea tree oil and allow the mask to cool for a few minutes before applying. Leave on the face for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
The ‘all rounder’ face mask
Lavender is one of those essential oils that we can’t imagine our lives without. It’s known for its ability to heal and regenerate the skin, making it an amazing addition to anyone’s skincare regime. It helps in the production of the body’s most powerful antioxidants and, as such, fights and prevents free radical damage. To help keep your skin in its best shape, we recommend mixing it with rose water which balances pH, cleanses and tones the skin.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp rose water
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp plain yogurt
- 3 drops of lavender essential oil
Simply combine all of the ingredients and apply them to the face. Wash off with warm water after approximately 15 minutes.
